Since I began writing IN THE PRESENCE OF BUTTERFLIES,  I have experienced the most delightful thing...little yellow butterflies follow me.  They sit on my shoulders, my book
if I am reading outside, my hat, my car...wherever I am, they are there...and they are so pretty...I love them.

I was born in the Eastern part of the United States, and have loved to write for as long as I can remember holding a pencil or pen. I have taught K-12 English, Foreign language, Creative Writing and Art.

My degrees are in English Writing and Editing with studies in Speech Communications and Journalism. I earned a Dewitt-Wallace Fellowship to study graduate Literature at Middlebury College in Vermont and have completed graduate level coursework at the University of South Carolina and in the NC Governor's school on Foreign Language at UNC Chapel Hill.

Additionally, I participated in the North Carolina Writing Project,
and as a Teacher-Scholar in The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.  Recently, I helped to reorganize The Hugo Schiller Holocaust Research Center for Teachers, and participated in " South Carolina Reads about the Holocaust."

Since 2012, in addition to writing, I have been the Campaign Director for the building of the PERMANENT BUTTERFLY MEMORIAL MONUMENT, a Holocaust Memorial in Grand Park in Myrtle Beach, SC.

When I am not writing, I spend time with my husband, family, and friends, reading, writing or painting with watercolors.

Author Notes

 July 21, 2010
The butterlflies win.  I am back in the office writing about them again.  Everyone else is enjoying the beach or the latest good book...I am working.
I am writing
IN THE PRESENCE OF BUTTERFLIES.

JULY 23, 2010
MY BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK.  I HAVE BEEN CELEBRATING MY BIRTHDAY FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JULY.  My gifts are wonderful,
beautiful things I have wanted, a bright red & white  coverlet,
Agatha Christie  movies,  a new Journal
.

In writing this book, I am like a mother bird, gathering bits of colorful ribbon here, and twigs and  string there in building her nest. I am building a book and like the mother bird, I look forward to the day when the book can fly free into the world and meet readers who will love my fledgling. Already I know which book
will be next.

When the writing is going well, it never ceases to amaze me how whatever I need seems to fall into place.  Sometimes there is serendipity.  I am so blessed. Sometimes my husband will prepare dinner so I can continue working.

Sometimes I have a battle with myself to stop writing so that I do not work myself to exhaustion.  Writers truly must observe the commandments of writing and one commandment  is:  Thou Shalt Not Overdo or Thou Shalt
not Drain the Well in One Day.  The philosopher said it best when he said,

"Moderation in All Things."
